Project

Title A Close-Up of My House Bugs
Insects bug body parts
Description There are several levels of usage of this Bugscope opportunity. First of all, the individual studying the microscope will have an excellent chance to see his bugs with higher resolution than we can generate with our existing classroom microscopes. Second, he will share his findings with his TAGmates in the gifted classroom. That classroom includes 10 children in 5th grade, made up of 5 girls and 5 boys from a midwestern rural setting, one Asian and 9 Caucasian students. Thirdly, if scheduling permits, his project time will be shared with his regular classroom of 20 students, primarily Caucasian, and then with the entire 5th grade, which is 60 students, primarily Caucasian and including 1 Black American and 2 Asian American students. The goal of the gifted program is not only to challenge the students appropriately, but also to find appropriate audiences. Sharing what we learn, especially if it is unique, is something we think all kids should have access to.
