Description | Bugscope will augment the classes observation of classroom cricket vivariums and the students' independent research of other types of insects. In second grade, we focus on the insect family and its major body parts. We also study their habitat and how the insect's interact with their habitat and environment. Our community of learners is currently comprised of 15 girls and 11 boys from several ethnically diverse backgrounds, including middle-eastern, african-american, and african. With six observation teams, we are currently studying and observing classroom mini-habits of the house cricket. The computer-based interface to the electron-microscope would introduce the children to the integration of science and technology, working hand-in-hand to provide a richer learning environment. The children would share their on-line experiences in their journal writing and oral presentation while the teacher would provide professional reflection with staff colleagues and at county science inservices. We are really looking forward to participating in this learning opportunity! We love to integrate technology with our learning. Thank you for the opportunity. L. Cook |
