Description | The students will learn about the insect life cycle by watching ladybug larvae turn into ladybugs. The students will draw and write about their observations. They will also search the playground for other insects with the objective of making the connection that all insects go through the life cycle stages. Students will have access to insect books and posters, as well as several insect collections. By the end of the unit, students will be able to name the parts of an insect and the stages of the life cycle. They will also have opportunities to view insects through a low-powered classroom microscope. Students will make a list of questions about insects that they would like to ask the scientists. We will send you some of our ladybugs and hopefully some others that we find on the playground. Bugscope will be the culminating activity of this unit. I will include my students as well as the other first grade class at our school. |
