- Bugscope TeamHi Sarah!
- Bugscope Teamwelcome to Bugscope!
- GuestHello! And thank you! I'm in the teacher prep program at WSU Tri-Cities
- GuestMy technology professor told us about this - pretty neat!
- Bugscope TeamCool. We are setting up for a session with a school in California that starts at 3:15 our time.
- GuestSounds great!
- Bugscope Teamwho's your teacher? or should I say did (she?) come from here?
- 3:03 pm
- GuestHer name is Lisa Page, and she's done sessions on here before.
Bugscope TeamAha! Yeah totally cool. Please say Hi to her!
- Bugscope Team(Scott Robinson)
- GuestI definately will!
- Bugscope TeamSarah you can see what we're doing -- we're choosing cool stuff on the stub and saving it as "Presets"
- Bugscope Teamwhen the teacher and her students log in they will be able to select from them on the lefthand screen
- 3:08 pm
- Guestthat's a good idea - how long does it take to prepare something like this?
- Bugscope Teamwe start out with insects/arthropods that are dry, and we mount them on a stub that's 1.75 inches in diameter. then we coat them with gold-palladium. it takes about 25 minutes to make the stub, 10 or so minutes to coat it, and 30 to 40 minutes to do what we're doing now.
- Guestvery cool. this is definately something I'd like to incorporate in my future classroom.
- 3:15 pm
- Bugscope TeamSarah be sure to apply for a session far in advance; once the time gets closer and you've already been accepted, you can work with us to modify the time/day.
- Bugscope Teamit's 'cause we've suddenly become so 'popular' that we are booking months ahead of time.
- GuestI will make note of that.
- Bugscope Teamtotally cool
- Bugscope Teamwe can hold only an average of two sessions/week
- Guesthow long do the sessions usually last?
- Bugscope Team45 minutes to an hour, usually
- Bugscope TeamDeb!

- Bugscope Teammoths can see in the ultraviolet wavelengths of color, whereas we cannot
- Bugscope Teamthe images we see come live from the electron microscope
- Bugscope Teamyou're driving a $600,000 microscope from your classroom
- Bugscope Teamif you ever see scanning electron micrographs in color, it's because they've been colorized
- 3:25 pm
- Bugscope Teambecause we're imaging using electrons, what we see comes to us as signal, in grayscale
- Bugscope Teamthis is one of those super nasty caterpillars that has a very bad sting if you touch it
- Bugscope Teamthis is one of the antennae of a springtail, which is very tiny
- Bugscope Teamand this is a larger moth; its proboscis is normally coiled

- GuestWhat keys do I use to drive?
Bugscope Teamuse your mouse to control the magnification, focus, etc. at the top of the viewing screen
- Bugscope Teamif you click within the image you see now, you can get the microscope to center on the place you click upon
- GuestI see that we click on the controls at the top
Bugscope Teamyes!
- Bugscope TeamI just clicked the minus on the magnification
- Guesthow do you pan
Bugscope Teamto move the sample, click once within the image and it will center on that point

- Bugscope Teamit may be that your screen resolution needs to be changed so that you can see all of the controls
- Bugscope Teamare you using a Windows machine?
- Bugscope Teamyou can right click on the 'desktop,' which will allow you to access 'Properties,' and you can then go to 'Settings' to change the screen size.
