Title Middle School Level: Digestive System of the Cabbage White Butterfly
Insects Cabbage White Butterfly
Description The 7th grade Life Science Lab students would like to explore the Cabbage White Butterfly in depth. The students: observed the life cycle stages of the cabbage white butterfly from egg, measured the length of an egg and the length of the body of a newly hatched CWB larva, measured and recorded the body length of a cabbage white larva every 3 days for 3 weeks, observed the food preferences of a CWB larva, determined whether adult CWB prefer one color of food over another, investigated the basic anatomy of an adult cabbage white butterfly. Since we are in a secondary curriculum in an inquiry based science lab situation, I request an investigation into the CWB's digestive system. Our curriculum suggests we compare the digestive system of a human body to that of an insect. Exploration might include: Brain, Gall Bladder, Pancreas, Small Intestine, Trachea, Esophagus, Stomach, Large Intestine, Heart, Lungs, Liver, and Rectum.
