- Bugscope TeamMs. Drake and Mrs. Balliet! Welcome to Busgcope!
- 12:14 pm
- TeacherThank you, we are excited to be here!
- Bugscope TeamGreat!
- Bugscope TeamLet us know when you have questions -- about anything.
- TeacherThank you!
- TeacherWill do....getting set up!
- Bugscope Teampresently Mrs. H-T has control of the 'scope, but we can confer it to anyone who wants it, one person at a time.
- TeacherSounds good.
- Bugscope Teamthis is a caterpillar, and you can see what other presets we made -- locations on the sample stub -- on the screen to the left
- Bugscope Teamthe person with control of the 'scope can click on one of the presets and the 'scope will drive to that place
- TeacherOkay, I'm back. I will start changing the image as soon as we get all of the kids logged on.
- Bugscope Teamtotally cool
- Bugscope Teamok great :)
- 12:20 pm
- Bugscope Teamthe kids may have to log on as guests if the student notation is not available
- Bugscope Teamthis is a brand-new interface that still has a few glitches...

- Guesthello scot can i ask you a question
Bugscope Teamyou bet!
- GuestHello
- GuestScot I have a Q.
- Bugscope Teamlet us know when any of you have questions
- GuestHow old is Bug Scope?
- GuestHow long does it take to make a scanning electron microsope?
- GuestAbout how many different bugs do you look at per week?\
- GuestWHATS YOUR FAVORITE BUG TO EXAMINE?
- Guestok why do scaning electron microscopes youse electrons instead of protons
Bugscope TeamI think it's because it's much easier to work with electrons, compared to protons
- GuestWHATS YOUR FAVORITE BUG TO EXAMINE?
Bugscope Teami like wasps and bees because you can sometimes see their stingers and they usually have some cool looking pollen on them
- Guestok
- Guestcate can i ask you some questions
Bugscope Teamsure
- Guestscot, whats your favorite part about being a scientist?
- Guestwhy do so many scientists look at bugas

Bugscope Teamfour or 5 minutes, usually
- 12:25 pm
- Guestwhy do so many scientists look at bugs
- Guesthi what makes a scanning electron microscope better than a light microscope?
Bugscope Teamthe electron microscope uses electrons instead of light. Electrons are much smaller which means we can resolve much smaller things (as small as 2 nanometers with this microscope)
- GuestHOW FAST DOES LITE TRAVLE
- GuestHow many bugs have you looked at this month?
Bugscope Team30 or 40 or more
- Guestjoe
- Guestscot can i ask a question?

- GuestCATE
- Guestwho invented the SEM?
- GuestHow long does it take to prepare a specimen?
Bugscope Teamafter it is dry, only a few minutes to coat with gold-palladium
- GuestCate, is it hard to prepare a slide?
Bugscope TeamNo. I first take an aluminum disc and put double stick carbon tape on it. From there I pick out what insects I want to use, unless the school sent some in, and then wherever I want to lay down an insect, I dab a little silver paint to help glue the insect to the tape and also to help make the sample more grounded. The hardest part is not crushing the sample as I pick it up. Insects get very brittle after they die and dry out.
- Guestthank you scot
- Guestis it hard to prepare a slide
Bugscope Teamit is easy
- Guestis it hard to prepare a specimen

- TeacherScot, why did they change the format of the controls?
Bugscope Teamwe wanted to improve it, using what we have learned, and at the same time provide for more people to be able to get on at one time. this was a big test today.
- TeacherI had trouble centering and maneuvering more this year than last.

- Bugscope Teamin a way Chas wanted to make changes just for something different, and I am sorry - we had some lag this year in being able to control, and also to get to questions

Bugscope Teamwe are still working the kinks out, hopefully the next time you use it, we will have everything under control better
