Description | We will be collecting and classifying the insects which are found naturally in decaying wood. The wood will be collected from a ranch along the Brazos River bottom in southeast Texas. We will use rearing containers to collect the insects over a period of 4 - 6 weeks. After collecting, we will classify and identify each insect and discuss the importance of its roll as a decomposer and contributor to the nitrogen cycle. Through Bugscope, we would focus on the insect's unique features and adaptations which allot it to decompose each rotting log. |
