- Guestwould we see microorganisms on the bugs?
Bugscope Teamwe could. Sometimes we see mites that are parasites on the insects. Occasionally we se bacteria or fungi that have colonized the insect after it died

- Studentcool.
- Bugscope TeamSome moth scales can cause really serious skin reactions in sensitive individuals. I got a really bad rash when I was collecting insects at a blacklight in Mexico this past summer.
- Studentgo to different bug!!!!!!!!
- Studentyeah
- Studentchao chao
- Studentyeah landins right
- Studentdid the rash hurt annie
Bugscope Teamyou betcha...it was a really bad rash. But such reactions are very rare. I have been collecting at blacklights for many years and this was the first time that I got any rashes.

- TeacherLooks like the mouth parts and legs fell off?
- Studentlimw
- Guesthow did u get a rash
Bugscope TeamWelll, there is a moth in Mexico that has been reported to cause serious skin rashes in sensitive people. I was collecting insects at a blacklight trap and there were tons of moths that landed on me and my collecting partner and we think that the scales from one of those moths causes an allergic reaction in both of us.
- Bugscope Teamthere are bacteria on the mealworm but they are hard to see
- Studentwhat was that
- Studentcan you see the eyes
- Bugscope TeamMrs V we think something chewed on this guy
- Studentits mouth looks scary

- Studentwow noah
- Studenthow do you do that
- Studentlololaura
- Studentlololaura
- Bugscope Teamif we put something alive in the microscope, it would never be able to pump to vacuum. When we look at samples in the microscope, the chamber where the insects are have to be pumped to a vacuum state. Now say we reached vacuum, I dont think the insects would live for very long even if they closed their spiracles
- Studentwhere are the mouth parts
- Studentwonderful
- Studentw9onderful;
- Studentnoah, let the pther people understand what you're writing
- Studentnever mind
- Bugscope TeamNoah I think that is more fungus on the antenna stump

- Bugscope Teamthe proboscis
- Studentit looks like bamboo
- Studentwhat are pheromones?
- Studentthe proboscis
- TeacherVery cool area of research!

- Bugscope TeamDestiny sort of like a tongue
- Studentcan we see the proboscus?
- Studentwar is this
- Studentwhat are pheromones?
Bugscope TeamPheromones are chemicals that insects use to communicate---kind of like if you could smell someone's perfume and know who it was and where they were
- Studentyeah jonathan if you could magnify it 1000x!!

- Bugscope Teamnow here is something interesting about the wooly bear: The setae (bristles) of the woolly bear caterpillar do not inject venom and are not urticant (meaning they don't cause itching or stinging), but they will play dead if picked up or disturbed.
- StudentWe already looked at this>
- StudentIT'S A STINK BUG HEAD

- StudentHow mant eges can a moth lay?
- Studentthis moth has to much hair
- Studentlots
- Studentand lots
- StudentDOES THIS MOTH HAVE ONLY ONE ANTENAE
- StudentIs the moth furry and thin or fat?
Bugscope Teamit is kind of hard to tell, usually moths are fat and look like hunchbacks. but sometimes you can see some skinny small ones
- Guestfuzzy, indefinitely. and the tiny antenna means that it is a female, not a male, because males have big, fuzzy antenna.
- Bugscope TeamMrs V I am not sure we could see Susie's antennae
