Project

Title Before the Butterfly
Insects shed caterpillar skin
Description I am a preservice teacher in my final internship. I have taken over teaching science in the classroom. Our students just yesterday watched a caterpillar turn into a chrysalis. They noticed the shed skin at the bottom of the jar, and wanted to take a closer look at it. I thought it would be a great thing for them to see (the monarch skin has antenna skin still attached). I will also be able to include multiple skin samples from painted lady and monarch butterflies if necessary (I don't know which one would be best under the microscope). Our class will begin their unit on butterflies (habitats, food/host plants, life cycle, etc) on 3/12/08.
