| Description | Objectives: - To develop a curiosity and interest in insects and a respect for them as living things. - To experience some of the great diversity of forms in the animal kingdom. - To become familiar with some of the life sequences that different types of insects exhibit (simple and complete metamorphosis). - To observe similarities and differences in the larvae, pupae, and adults of the insects that go through complete metamorphosis. - To observe the behaviors of insects at different stages of their life cycle. - To become familiar with the parts of an insect such as the head, thorax, and abdomen. - To answer the overall question: what makes an insect an insect? Composition of classroom: There are three second grade classrooms. Each class is very diverse. Although the classrooms have a very close ratio of males to females, there is a variety of races/ethnicities including Caucasian, African-American, Hispanics, Hmong and other Asian backgrounds. We will share what we have learned from this project with colleagues in our school and our district and other schools and districts. We will invite our colleagues to our Bugscope session and will also share information with others that were unable to join the session. Other teachers in our district will also be given information about Bugscope. Through my experience with Bugscope at Marquette University, I have already passed it on to the Wauwatosa School District. I will continue to share information with other schools and districts. |
