Description Bugscope would be part of a unit on insects in an upper level Zoology class. It is an elective class that is heterogenously grouped and therefore, has of students of all academic levels. The classes are pretty equal in terms of gender and cut across socioeconomic levels. In Vermont, there is very little diversity in terms of race. In the insect unit, they do a collection and study forensic entomology. Identification of insects is an important application of this field and Bugscope would help them in seeing the details of the insects. I always stress in class how much is around us that we cannot see with the naked eye and this would also provide a venue for that teaching strategy. Knowing my students it would help them get more excited by science and the tools used. I will make a bulletin board of the work the kids do.
