The Project

Project Title Insect Adaptations
Insects To Study < LEFT BLANK >
Project Description Students will collect and try to identify specimens to send in to Bugscope as part of our study of insects and ecology. We are looking at the form and function of insect bodies and what advantage those adaptations may give to those organisms. We are exploring questions such as why insects may have evolved the way they have and how they fit into their particular environments. Bugscope will give my students the opportunity to look at some of these structural adaptations much more closely. In addition, they will be able to interact with Bugscope scientists to learn more about our specimens and also what it is like to be a scientist. Finally, we also integrate this experience into our chemistry unit later in the year. As we learn the structure of atoms, we look back at how the electron microscope works and reference our Bugscope experience.

Where did you hear about Bugscope? We have been lucky enough to participate before. (First saw in a science teachers magazine, I think)
