The Project

Project Title Macroinvertebrates Up-(very)close
Insects To Study mayfly nymph, scud, water penny, aquatic isopod and sow bug
Project Description The focus of grade 5 environmental science is how organisms are adapted to their environments. In the fall we collect and examine the half dozen macroinvertebrates that are commonly found in our creek. We use dissecting scopes for our "close-ups", but it would be very exciting to really see them under a scanning scope. It would be especially useful to compare the aquatic isopod and the terrestrial sow bug. All of our explorations are laying the foundation for understanding the evidence for evolution.
