The Project

Project Title Mealworm Investigation
Insects To Study Mealworm (larva), Grain Beetle, and student collected
Project Description 5th grade students will be studying classification systems and making weekly observations of mealworm/grain beetle specimens. They will also be working on microscope skills. I would like them to have the opportunity to see a specimen in more detail than they can in my classroom. This would also be a great opportunity to compare our conventional microscopes with an electron microscope. In addition, I intend to bring my students out on campus to collect insects to send to you (perhaps choosing one or two additional samples as a class in addition to mealworm and grain beetle.) I think my students (I will bring all 3 sections of 5th grade into my room for Bugscope; total 42 students) will be especially interested to see mouth parts, antennae and the spiracles. Thank you!
