The Project

Project Title Insect Morphology
Insects To Study < LEFT BLANK >
Project Description In 7th grade science, I start the year teaching many concepts using insects as the context. Students collect insects for a collection in which they identify their specimans to ORDER. Students then make a taxonomic key of the 12 or so insects in thier collection. Throughout this 6 week insect unit, students also study science process skills such as observations, inferences, and experimental design - all using insects as our study subjets. Students will even have some experience early in the year with the compound and dissecting microscopes - so the integration with microscopy is another added enrichment for them. I will use Bugscope as a way of teaching insect morphology. Students will be amazed at the specialization of each insect species and this experience will reinforce our overall year-long theme of biodiversity.

Where did you hear about Bugscope? I found out about Bugscope over a year ago and particpated last school year. It was truly a highlight of our year - students loved it, as did I. I'm excited to use it again this year.
