The Project

Project Title Insect Collection
Insects To Study Insects available in May and June
Project Description We study how organisms are classified by having students collect insects and try to identify them as closely to the genus species as they can get. Often it means just getting it in the correct Order or Family. Students catch specimens or may take pictures if they are averse to catching and killing. We also encourage photos of many of the species. In conjunction with this project, the students have each chosen a moth or butterfly wing pattern to study closely and create an image of part of a wing in pastels in art class. We will encourage them to catch or photograph that species in the spring when they are out. The Bugscope will allow them to see in even greater detail the form, function and adaptations of insects.
