The Project

Project Title bees and colony collapse disorder
Insects To Study bees
Project Description We have learned about insect and plant lifecycles as part of the 2nd grade FOSS science curriculum. We then began a problem based learning unit on bees. Our driving questions include: What are bees? Why are they important to us? What is happening to bees that they are disappearing? Should we care that they are disappearing? What can we do to help bees? We've been doing a webquest online researching bees with our final project to be a commercial informing other students and parent about the plight of the honeybee and what they can do to help. Students have found dead bees on our playground and in their yards. We would like to know if there is evidence of the Varro mite or of pesticides on the bees we have collected or if these bees died of natural causes.
